1 Hot times in the craf-ice (formerly known as the crafting/office)
I love my room, but it has a temperature problem. Its bipolar. In the summer it’s the hottest room in the house and in the winter it’s the coldest. I’ve already been using my space heater this morning. BUT then the fog burnt off and the sun came out. My trusty Galieo thermometer went from less than 68 to more than 75!
Then at 2:30pm the sun BLASTED through my fabulous window. Wearing sunglasses wasn’t cutting it, so I improvised and created a make-do shade. I’ll have to get crafty and make a shade…later.

2 the Bare-Bones Office/Craft room
YEAH! My office has been vacated after a 6 year stint as a nursery. This past weekend I moved my baby to the basement. Thankfully that went smoothly. I’ve been itching to get a little corner of the house back to myself.
Last winter, while we finished our basement, we lived entirly on one floor (we had been using the unfinished space for years). Both of our girls were in the only non-parent main-floor bedroom, so both Nate and my laptops and work stuff ended up all over the living/dinning room along with all the girls’ toys. TOO CROWDED! It was impossible to keep the space clean. Now that the basement is finished, we all have more elbow room. We are giving everything a new home in an effort to keep things tidy.
So, without further ado…here is where I’m sitting now. The foundation is laid, but there is LOTS of decorating to be done. I want this to be MY space, where I can come to create. Whether it be statistical code, family albums, or Barbie clothes.
The bookcase was a yard sale find ten years ago. Its seen better days, but I’m not sure how the laminate will take a coat of paint. Anyone ever tired it? Right now it houses my statistics texts and some crafting supplies. Nothing’s wrong with your eyes, the ribbon and lace bins are vomit bins from my hospital stays. The other things are in school shoe boxes.
I did donate a corner of the room along with my previous desk to my husband. Why you ask? To get his laptop and paperwork out of my dinning room. The folding table is my sewing/crafting station. Most mornings it will be Kylie’s art desk while I work and Allie is at Kindergarten. I’ve already been using my sewing machines more now that they are handy.
AND HERE’S MY LOVELY NEW DESK!!! I found it on sale at Staples for $59!!! I love that it is L-shaped and has the shelf on the long side. Currently, the only thing on the walls (which I’m itching to paint now), is my trusty old white erase board. I love being able to have a to-do list for work right in front of me. Now I need a corkboard or magnet board.
The desk has MORE SPACE then I’ve ever had. In fact I had enough room to give my Cricut a home out of its box for the first time ever. I’ve also moved the mail/bills drawer unit to my desk. Hopefully that will help keep my kitchen counter tidy.
So, here’s my view as I work. Ah! Relaxing. Now I just need to spice the space up. Anyone want to help? Suggestions?
PS – WHAT DO I CALL MY OFFICE/CRAFT ROOM?
0 Paper Chain Countdown
$13 and worth it!). Straight on it only reaches 5.5 inches, but since the center pivots 360 degrees, it can reach anywhere on a 12 x12 page. It is great for fixing paper back books when the staples ripe out (happens a round here all too often).

3 Baby Photo Props
1 RS Craft Night 2010
I don’t have any pictures of mine yet, but it was my favorite. I’ll post it later!
Logan Temple Picture: $43
The idea was to spray paint an old frame, but I didn’t have any and DI was out. I splurged on a new frame because I’ve been wanting a temple picture in my living room upstairs for years.
- frame: Hobby Lobby, 50% off ($25)
- white foam board: Hobby Lobby ($4)
- black spray paint: Walmart?
- Temple sepia mounted photo ($14)
Curly Wood Letters: $4 each
These are not finished yet. I didn’t have the supplies I needed at the church that night. I’ll have to post the finished product later.
Wood sconces: $1
I found these wood sconces at DI for $0.50 each. They were quite ugly, but nothing a quick coat of black paint couldn’t fix. I think I’ll get taller candles and put one set on either side of the large mirror above my staircase.
Ball center piece: $2.50
Now this was a CHEAP project. Eileen found the bowl at a dollar store and she gave it a few coats of black spray paint. The balls we old ones I found around the house (softball, tennis ball, racket ball, golf ball). I just used hot glue to cover them with either craft twine or fake moss. SO EASY!
Seasonal Candle Sticks, $8.50 for the pair
This pair of wood candle sticks just needed a coat of black paint. Now I can decorate them for each season or holiday. Here I have them covered with Halloween scrapbook paper. I think they need wider ribbon and taller candles, but I love the idea. I’ll save the covers to reuse each year.
Square frames, $2 for the pair
These frames were left over from an ‘Activity Day’ years ago. I picked them up at Michaels for $1/each. I hope I can find more. I just modge poged them with some cute scrapbook paper after painting the edges silver. To dress them up a bit more, I inked the edges with scrapbook ink. I’m going to hang them in the girls’ downstairs bathroom.

0 *NEW* Intoducing the Circut Imagine (an HP color printer AND cricut in ONE)
I love my cricut and have used it oodles!
But now Provo Craft also makes these. Goggle 'cricut imagine' or check out the links below. Very slick! Of course, I don't paper scrapbook anymore and never have made cards, but I still like to drool over this.

1 A new necklace
I created a charm to match a pair of earrings I made yesterday. Then I made a few more charms that coordinated with the other colors in my shirt. Is it too much?

0 New hobby: Jewelry
JEWELRY MAKING!
Yesterday I stopped by 'Hobby Lobby' on the way home and picked up some basics. I had a kit of 5 small wire tools. I acquired them in a white elephant swap 6-7 years ago. All I needed now was a pair of round nose pliers (30% off) and some beads (50% off).
I put together two pairs of earring last night. Click on the picture to get a better look. I also included the clip I learned on at my neighbor's house. Thanks for teaching me Janette!
0 Fixed a dress
Problem: it was a tad too low in the neckline (cleavage baby) and a tid bit short (just brushed my knee caps).
Solution: I added some black lace by hand. ($3.54 -Walmart).
TaDa... A $10 dress!
